rsk.rename · Feature reference
A complete toolkit for large file sets.
From quick replacements to metadata, JavaScript, presets, and CLI automation, rsk.rename covers both everyday jobs and advanced workflows.
01Guided four-step workflow+
- Select source, define target and mode, configure rules with preview, and execute with control.
- Add files and folders by drag and drop, optionally including subfolders and folders themselves.
- Review source, target, method, file count, and rule chain in a final summary.
02Flexible rule pipeline+
- Edit prefixes, suffixes, replacements, letter case, whitespace, characters, and freely positioned text.
- Move substrings, change extensions, and number with start, step, padding, folder reset, decimal, hex, or Roman formats.
- Combine, enable, disable, and reorder any number of rules by drag and drop.
03Regex, tokens, and metadata+
- Use grouped regex replacements and token patterns based on file name, extension, date, time, numbers, user, and folder.
- Insert EXIF date, GPS, camera, resolution, ID3 title, artist, album, track, and video metadata.
- Combine power tokens for substrings, CSV mapping, random strings, increment/decrement, and formatted values.
04Filters and file selection+
- Apply wildcard patterns or regex to names and process subfolders recursively.
- Limit path depth and minimum or maximum file-name and path lengths.
- Review the filtered file list with date, type, size, and sorting before building rules.
05Live preview and preflight+
- Compare original and result continuously and see status, conflicts, and invalid names per item.
- Search and filter large previews in pages and chunks with reduced memory use.
- Enable execution only after a valid preview and recheck source, target, and file state immediately before starting.
06Rename, copy, and move+
- Rename files in place, copy them to a target, or move them into a new structure within the same workflow.
- Block existing targets, preserve both with an automatic suffix, or overwrite deliberately.
- Reject or replace invalid characters, back up overwrite cases, and resolve swaps or cycles through two-phase renaming.
07Presets and recurring jobs+
- Save source, target, filters, mode, conflict strategy, performance options, and the complete rule chain as a preset.
- Mark favourites and immediately distinguish complete from incomplete presets.
- Apply presets by double-click and reuse them for photo imports, podcast exports, archives, or media collections.
08CLI and automation+
- Run saved presets through the included self-contained command-line tool.
- Override source and target, perform dry runs, and explicitly start unattended execution with execute/yes.
- Use JSON, quiet and verbose output, fail-on-skip, aliases, and defined exit codes for batch and CI scripts.
09JavaScript rules+
- Add custom JavaScript logic as a programmable step in any rule pipeline.
- Use a full editor with syntax highlighting, function navigation, ctx-field selection, debugging, and testing.
- Open token, regex, and JavaScript references directly from the modular rule editor.
10Undo, logs, and traceability+
- Undo every executed batch from persistently stored sessions and individual operations.
- Review the complete execution log, export it as CSV or JSON, and clear it inside the application.
- Overwrite backups, rollback logic, and retries protect undo operations from transient file errors.
11Performance and robustness+
- Scan files as a stream and process simple rule chains through an optimized fast path.
- Run copy and move operations with controlled parallelism, cancel long jobs, and retry I/O errors with backoff.
- Persist large logs in chunks, cache metadata, and safely lock shared roots across application processes.
